Plasticity
2009
PLASTICITY is a UV-lit plastic bottle/plant life hybrid sculpture/installation created in the context of CART 411: The Ecosophic Turn at Concordia University. It is made of approximately one thousand plastic bottles arranged in modules, suspended by fishing wire. Each bottle is either empty or contains some combination of water, plant life (moss or commiphora) and tonic water (quinine). The imagined macro organism grows out of a void between three circles of accumulated trash, represented by the labels of the bottles. Two fluorescent tubes and three CFL blacklights make quinine glow, illuminating subdued life forms and installing an atmosphere of reflection and tranquility where an abnormal nature exists.
